On a recent jaunt to Forbidden Planet in Dublin’s fair city, I lost myself in the aisles of the Funko Pop vinyl toys. For those who do not know what these are, they are cool collectible toys of all your favourite pop culture characters from movies, TV, gaming and music. All with a very distinctive bobblehead style, you can find Funko Pop Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Funko Pop Fortnite, a headless Game of Thrones Ned Stark and you can even Funko Pop yourself! The different franchises are vast and awesome!
There are over 8000 different variations of the collectible toys with one of the most expensive and rarest Funko Pop Star Wars figures (Darth Maul) going for a casual pop price guide of $2000! Even Sloth with his Superman t-shirt from The Goonies Funko Pop range is sitting around $350! Amongst the massive catalogue of Funko figures there are some fab 80s and 90s vinyl toys that will make you want to start collecting them immediately! Here are 12 of the best!
Dr Ian Malcolm - Jurassic Park 1993
Arguably one of the best 90s movies (big shout I know!) so of course the oh so sensual bare chest of Jeff Goldblum taken from the film is something that every Jurassic Park fan needs in their life! “Life uh finds a way!”
Doc Brown - Back to the Future 1985
Great Scott! The mad Doctor Emmett Brown as a Back to the Future Funko Pop is necessary for any 80s fan of the epic time travelling trilogy!
Marty McFly - Back to the Future 1985
This Marty and Delorean time machine vinyl figure is another collectible in the Back to the Future Funko Pop range. It is a little more expensive than the wild hair Doc Brown, so maybe only hardcore fans would be tempted by the pop price!
Jack - The Shining 1980
Jack Torrence from cult classic horror movie The Shining can be all yours! This pop vinyl is apart of the Funko horror range. All 9cm of the axe wielding fiend can sit perfectly, unnervingly on your desk!
He-Man - Masters of the Universe 1983
By the power of Grayskull! Do you have a few fun tokens to throw at this highly unnecessary but MUST HAVE Master of the Universe He-Man Funko?! One of the more sought after and pricey Pop in a box figures, but He-Man was after all a total 80s hero! Look at those little furry pants!
Gizmo - Gremlins 1984
This Gremlins Funko Pop of the cute little Gizmo is from their movie range. Instantly recognisable to a child of the 80s! Just be sure not to feed after midnight or give him any water!
Mr Bean 1990
British sitcom royalty! The man child that is Mr Bean made famous by Rowan Atkinson in the 1990s. This particular Funko Pop figure is from the The Bean range which comes with his little teddy! Of course.
Wayne - Wayne’s World 1992
The Wayne’s World Funko Pop collection is a popular option amongst 90s kids! This vinyl figure is Wayne with his trusty Fender Stratocaster, Excalibur! You can also get his pal Garth to complete the set.
Ghostbusters - 1984
The Ghosbusters Funko Pop range is hugely popular with fans of the original 80s movie. There are a few choices of the standalone vinyl figures of the main characters and ghouls, or a squad composition of bobbleheads like this one. Either way, any collectible Ghostbusters toy is a winner!
Knight Rider 1982
So we never got the car, but now we can somewhat live vicariously through a teeny tiny bobblehead figure of Michael and KITT! This iconic 80s TV series starring none other than The Hoff (David Hasselhoff) has been immortalised into a Pop vinyl figure and I’m not entirely sure why I haven’t bought this already!
Lion-O - Thundercats 1985
Thunder… Thunder… Thundercats HOOOOOOO!! (And if you don’t know that, then you’re way too young for this website!) This Thundercats Pop vinyl is clearly a necessity for every 80s kid! Even if you just buy it to have a fight with He-Man!
Scott Howard - Teen Wolf 1985
These waves are mine! The 1985 smash hit werewolf movie starring Michael J Fox is another classic in the old school 80s movies Funko collection. This Pop vinyl figure comes complete with iconic Beavers varsity jacket, headphones, sunglasses and basketball.
